ABSTRACT

Short-answer problems dominate math practice software, yet no responsible instructor accepts short answers in person or when grading problems manually because incorrect short answers typically convey insufficient information for optimally helpful responses. This presentation shows good and bad examples, analyzes responsibility, and proposes a cure.
