ABSTRACT

Presentations on different ways to evaluate student learning including a variety of feedback and classroom techniques. Accepted theories of assessment were incorporated throughout. Each talk described a particular type of assessment strategy. Discussions on using technology and the Internet to build better assessment tools were integrated. Topics included:

Assessment - an overview of the issues, the stakes, and the methods
Assessment Theory - from item analysis and item response theory to scoring correction methods
Assessment Engines - options for actually making online testing instruments
Assessment for Group Learning - groups are different and require different assessment rubrics
Assessment for Online Classes - what are the options? What works?
Placement Tests - Making and administering
