ABSTRACT

Three units in the Video Applications Library have been completed for the Consortium for Mathematics and its Applications (COMAP). These units are grouped as Calculus: Understanding Change. Each unit includes a professionally produced film and accompanying class materials. The units are:

RX for Calculus: Prescribing Safe and Effective Dosage This film compares linear and exponential absorption rates for drugs in the bloodstream.

Built by Calculus: Dam Construction This film presents several applications of integration used in dam construction.

Tracking a Killer: Epidemics This film models epidemics with a difference and differential equations.

The films will be shown on a TV monitor, and the classroom materials will be available for examination. This work was funded by a grant from the NSF, Grant Number DUE-9053407 to COMAP.
