ABSTRACT
The computer algebra system Maple, is being used in the calculus sections at Christopher Newport University to enhance the teaching and learning of the calculus. In the course, students are expected to know the usual concepts in the calculus and, in addition, know how to use Maple to solve problems involving tedious calculations. A 'how to' manual was developed by the author to aid instructors in incorporating Maple into their classes. The manual contains a detailed syllabus suggesting where to use the computer during lectures, sample lectures incorporating Maple into the class, homework assignments using Maple, and a 'take-home' test using Maple. A disk containing the sample lectures is in the manual. A discussion of the MapleCalc course will be given.Keyword(s): calculus, Maple, limits, derivatives, integrals, numerical methods
