Applications are invited for a tenure-track assistant professor position in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Old Dominion University. It is anticipated the candidate will be from an area of statistics, applied statistics, biostatistics, or bioinformatics.
Successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in statistics, or a related field, strong demonstrated or potential ability to build a sponsored research program, excellent pedagogical skills, and a desire to teach at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Effective communication skills are required.
Old Dominion University is a
Carnegie Doctoral/Research Extensive institution with 19,000 students and over
600 full-time faculty. The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is one of seven
degree-granting units in the College of Sciences and currently has 27 full-time
faculty. The department offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees.
A Center for Computational Science, in which the department plays a prominent role,
has recently been established, with funding from the DOE, NSF, and NASA. Excellent
collaborative research and educational opportunities are available at the Eastern
Virginia Medical School, and the Virginia Modeling, Analysis and Simulation Center
