Title: A WENO Algorithm for Radiative Transfer: The Temperature and Ionization Profile around a Point Source
Jing-Mei Qiu
Brown University
In this talk, we consider the radiative transfer equations in Astrophysics. We will use
1) the WENO (Weighted Essentially Non-Oscillatory) algorithm with anti-diffusive flux corrections to approximate spatial derivatives,
2) third order Runge-Kutta method in time integration,
3) multi-time-scale strategy and semi-implicit time discretization for stiff rate equations, in solving system of differential equations (radiative transfer equations coupled with rate equations of temperature and ionization).
A grid refinement convergence study is performed to verify the convergence of our numerical solutions. I will show the numerical results of point source model as well as some preliminary numerical results on the merging of two ionized spheres.
