Consider a 'k' out of 'n' system whose components have independent lifetimes with completely arbitrary distributions. I will compare the lifetimes of such systems on the basis of the hazard rate, reversed hazard rate and likelihood ratio orders. These comparisions have important consequences for order statistics. The talk will be accessible to graduate students.
